Unable to upgrade to fibre because cabinet full. Is it possible to confirm this?

$

I currently have residential fibre broadband but had a requirement for a static IP.  I asked BT to change my package from residential to business so I could get a static IP.  I was told by BT that the cabinet is full and they could not give me fibre on the business line  I needed a the static IP so I got a 2nd line (new connection) for business broadband at a download speed of 1MB while my residential broadband speed is 70mb.  Both lines are in the same cabinet.  I'm now paying for 2 lines/broadband packages when I only require 1.

However, what I find strange is that the engineer that installed the business line said he can't understand why I couldn't get fibre as there were "loads" of free ports in the cabinet.

Is there anyway I can confirm if this is the case or can I at least be put on a waiting list for fibre?

Massive Ping Spikes With Netflix!!!!

My ping usually is around 10 - 30ms when Netflix isn't running but as soon as it is my ping spikes to over 300ms which makes most games I play unplayable. I have an average network sped of around 20mbps down and 1 mbps up (the fastest speed available for me) but Netflix streams in HD so this shouldn't be a problem? This has just started to occur a few weeks ago, it was fine before.

Bridging FTTC connection from draytek vigor 2860 to unifi USG.

I have a static FTTC connection to my draytek modem that I would like to bridge to my unifi USG router. However when I put the draytek in bridged mode I still cannot access the broadband network through my USG by entering the broadband username and password into the PPPOE connection section. Do I need to add VLAN tags number somewhere as well?

Any help would be appreciated

Replace 4G dongle with Mifi hub

Hi all,

We have a 4G dongle plugged into our BT router that allows access to the net if the phone line goes down.

If we replace this with a Mifi dongle/adapter, and plug it into the BT router USB port, will this work the same?

TIA

Edit: I inadvertently posted this in the Residential community and was advised to post here. They also stated that it would not work.?

So looking for a solution that does not involve a landline due the location.

My bt connection in hammersmith is the standard copper wire internet. I wanted to know if someone can tell me if this can be upgraded. I asked BT andgot two different answers:

1. Person 1 who installed BT told me that I should be able to get upto 60Mbps

1. Person 2 on Bt business chat told me that I was on fastest possiblefor this line

DNS Issues

I have a problem with DNS at one particular site.

My BT Business broadbands installed elsewhere (including on the same exchange) don't have a problem.

At this site 3-4 times a week DNS lookups start to fail, there's no apparent pattern to the failure times or network activity.

During the outage I can ping extenal DNSs but not BT's DNSs and nslookups to all DNS timeout.

The problem is rectified by rebooting the router (I'm using Draytek devices) but this is a business site so having to have the customer reboot the router several times a week is not acceptable.

Having the router configured to use BTs DNS or an extenall DNS (e.g. 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1) makes no difference.

Anyone have any suggestions as to the problem?

BT Business Hub 6 VPN and email issues

$

Hi all, wonder if anyone could help please?

We have been a long standing BT customer for years.

In September last year, we signed up for a BTNet line.  Lead time was quoted at 45-55 working days, so we were hoping to have this in place well before Christmas.  Unfortunately, a series of BT cockups ensued, and we are still without it.  In addition, our existing Infinity 1 line has been dropping regularly throughout the day, making connections difficult.  We spoke to BT and they have provided a new contract for us, with a new router. It also has a 4G assure addon.  This is on the proviso that once the leased line is eventually installed, this service will be cancelled.

The new router has been swapped in, but we're having problems

1) Despite opening up the necessary ports, the new router does not seem to pass emails through to our server

2) We are having a problem replicating our VPN setup.  Our old router (v3) works perfectly, using PPTP passthrough.

I have read up extensively on the v6 router, and understand that the VPN issue is well known about.  I have tried all the fixes I've seen, but I can't get this working.  One other concern I have is that it would appear that the 4G dongle is somehow tied to the v6 hub, meaning we can't use a 3rd party router if we want the 4G backup?

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks, Alex

How long does it take for 4G Assure to kick in when line disconnects?

$

Subject line says it all really.

BT Business broadband line disconnects every so often (particuarly when weather is bad) which causes problems with POS system - disconnected / reconnected 3-4 times yesterday (time between disconnects and reconnect can vary).

Raising a line fault ticket to get fixed connection sorted, but wanted to know if 4G Assure is actually any use as a transparent (instant) fallback solution? If it takes minutes to kick in then it is of limited benefit (as POS can be switched to phone line in that time).

Does anyone have practical experience with 4G Assure and how long it takes to kick in if broadband disconnects?

Many thanks for your replies.

BTHub6 and (eg Nest) wi-fi device configuration, technical advice

$

Our organization's building has (internal) flint walls which effectively blocks wi-fi and 4g.

For this reason, we have an internal 48-port ethernet network delivering wired internet to most rooms.

Nevertheless, we need good wi-fi for our guests and visitors.

I tried to resolve this February 2019. We tested adding a wifi router from BT to the network via a local ethernet port.

The network crashes. DHCP (internal system IP address allocation) is conflicted. We attached an ethernet cable to the wifi router on a laptop, and reset it's preferred IP address (from the default 192 range), reboot login to check new config. We then attached the reconfigured wifi device to the BTHub6 ethernet system, and it crashed the network.

I called BT technical support, elevated the issue to a (helpful and knowledgable) specialist who didn't have a viable solution, although he had used an ethernet-through-mains-electric-circuit configuration to address a similiar problem.

Perhaps BTHub6 (Huawei) router software has been now been updated to accomodate wi-fi subnets ?

Is ther any other solution out there so we can simply buy the wifi routers of our choice and use them on our business network ? Thank you for your attention.

Every time I sign on at home I get this message: Redirect to BT Wholesale Service Information Page ( 62.6.38.125/index.html ) and it wont let me connect to the internet. Please don't tell me to ring BT- I've been on twice today and both times they were unsuccessful in getting it to go away and told me it would go away in time- that was three hours ago- trying very hard to run a small business and finding it near impossible with all my broadband problems lately. Any help appreciated

Smart Hub Firmware BUG

Yesterday my Smart Hub did a firmware update (annoying that it was during the working day)

Previously:
Firmware version: SG4B1B0092BC
Gui version: 1.117.2

and now

Firmware version: SG4B1B0092BE
Gui version: 1.132.0

So, probably just a GUI update.

However, the displayed Line and Signal Attenuation figures have both jumnped from what was a nice, stable 16.4 dB to an incredible 27.7 dB. Speeds have remained much the same with max attainable around 71.1 Mbps and actual sync at 70.1 Mbps and for updstream around 17.9 Mbps.     For a 440m line 16.4 is the right figure - no way is it 27.7dB and voice is fine and clear so no other oddities. And has remained there, no changes, no re-sync, no loss of service ...

So,  is there a bug in the GUI   and if so, how long before it is resolved.

Hi

Someone called from BT on 24th Feb 2020 to say my BT contact ends tomorrow (25.2.2020) need to renew and I did that over the phone. Next day they cut my broadband and the following day my landline. They say there is a problem with order and cancelled it. Now more than two weeks and they have no when the services are going be restored. They say now they are following it with BT openreach. I am out of business for two weeks now and not sure how many more.

The completion date changes everyday to next day. BT support always say the case handler will call back and he never does. I am very frustated and they brought my business to closing stage. Is there anyone who can help?

Hub broadband logon - does it matter?

$

When I first signed up for Business Broadband (many years ago!) I was given a username/password in the format of A123456@hg78.btclick.com and which I've used on all modems/routers connected to my line since, though various package and line upgrades too.

My latest BT Business Smart Hub comes pre-configured with with the generic username and assoicated password green-light@service.btclick.com and connects fine as-is. Presumably any account authentication takes place at the line level.

My question: what's the purpose / value of using an indervidual username/password? Should this still be used, or the generic one instead?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I recently got a btnet fiber leased line installed. It is active but I am unable to access it as I don't have a username and password for my connection to establish a PPPOE session on my router. I called bt multiple times but they seem to have little knowledge. Any assistance would be appreciated

Home Move failure by BT

I set up my home move weeks in advance and for some reason the order kept getting cancelled by BT. I kept getting the usual fob off when I phoned up and as a result a complaint was opened.

Having now moved I rang today to find out if the issue had been resolved only to be told that BT had closed my complaint and the back office team were working on resolving the problem.............exactly the same fob off I have been getting for 4 weeks.

Now I am being told that someone will phone in 5 days time, which will then bring us upto 6 weeks since I raised an order for bradband and phone to be installed. BT are still taking my money

BT business Smart hub and POE

Hi. Does anyone know if this hub supports POE? I have run a cable to my garden building from the hub and am going to connect a TP link wireless access point in the garden building. If it doesn't, how do I power the TP link device with POE? What do I have to add to achieve this. Many thanks and I hope everyone is staying safe at this difficult time.

Longstanding poor service with BT

As I'm now working from home exclusively, I rely on my broadband connection. I often deal with video and high resolution photographs - both uploading and downloading. Also I need video conferencing to work smoothly too. Outside of that, I enjoy gaming online, which is practically impossible with my connection.

I have called and spoken with BT numerous times over the years but have never received a satisfactory resolution. I have looked at Open Reach for a while to see if fibre will come to my property (it's offered to other properties on my street) but with no luck.

Note: Someone has commented recently that our line is noisy and a call to BT recently let a tech support guy to say the SNR margin was in the 30s.

I wonder if the issue is within our property, or something with the exchange or from the exchange to our property.

I also want to point out that I know that next door, literally within touching distance of my property, has fibre available and my property does not. In fact lots of properties in my area do, but for some reason I can't sign up to it. I get fobbed off with "speak to open reach".

If anyone can help me get a decent connection, I'll be extremely grateful. I'm ready to investigate and act on any advice given.

I regularly run speed tests and get :

DL speeds of around 6Mbps

UL speeds between 0.1 and 0.4Mbps

The latest BT speedtest I did (with ethernet connection etc) was as follows:

Download Speed (Mbps): 6.17

Upload Speed (Mbps) : 0.36

Ping Latency (ms): 18
